We have all been there. One minute, you’re enjoying a smoke or an edible, then it all takes a wrong turn. Maybe you start to panic and lose sense of reality. You may even be mad at yourself for overindulging. There’s a chance you’re in that state right now and found this article while looking for solutions.
We won’t sugar coat this or offer false hope. Getting too high is frustrating and not much will help aside from waiting it out. There are many home remedies people swear by, but the rate of success is mixed at best and may leave you even more frustrated.
So, what do you do?
For starters, the most important thing you can do is take deep, calming breaths and remind yourself this feeling won’t last forever. It’s important to remember that even though you may be flying high as a kite, your system will finish processing the THC and you will get back to your normal state. You are at little to no risk of permanent damage from overindulging.
Once you are in a less fearful state, a good next step is to drink some water. It won’t flush the system like some miracle cure, but it will ensure you don’t get dehydrated and will ease your recovery.
Next, we’d like to introduce you to a technique used by many chronic anxiety sufferers. This technique helps the mind and body refocus and remain present. It’s often referred to as “Five Senses” and it’s a very simple grounding technique that engages, you guessed it, your five senses.
Sit comfortably, take a deep breath, and start by noting 5 things you can see in your environment. Next, note 4 things you can feel. From there move to 3 things you can hear. Then focus on 2 things you can smell. Lastly, think on 1 thing you can taste. Take your time as you do this and try your best to focus solely on this activity. You can repeat this as often as you like. It comes in handy during moments of stress regardless of cause.
We hope this helps you find your balance and settles some of your fear about getting too high.
