Terp Talk – Myrcene

We’re on to another heavy-hitter in the terpene world: this time we’re focusing on myrcene (pronounced MUR-seen.)

Myrcene is found in things as common as mango, hops, lemongrass, and thyme. This terpene plays a big role in many cannabis strains of all kinds. It’s found in Sativas, Hybrids, and Indicas, and is known for its calming, often sedative, effects.

As we’ve discussed previously, each terpene has a distinct scent and flavor profile. Myrcene is known for its musky, earthy, spicy profile.

Popular strains that include high levels of myrcene are:

  • Tangie
  • Blue Dream
  • OG Kush
  • Grandaddy Purple
  • Harlequin
  • Grape Ape
  • White Widow
  • Cherry Pie
  • Strawberry

This strain is responsible for that infamous “couch lock” effect at higher dosages. This sedative effect makes this the ideal terpene to use as a sleep aid. Finding a myrcene-forward, Indica-dominant strain will definitely give you a chill, relaxing vibe, perfect for restful sleep and taming anxiety, if just for a little while.
